Dr. April K, Title IX Expert and Advocate, to Connect with Columbia Area Title IX Coordinators and Students


Columbia, South Carolina (April 15, 2024)  – Dr. April K, a renowned advocate for survivors of sexual violence and domestic abuse, will be visiting Title IX coordinators at colleges and universities in the Columbia, South Carolina area this week (Tuesday, April 16th and Thursday, April 18th).

Dr. April K, a graduate of Benedict College in Columbia and a survivor herself, is passionate about connecting with fellow champions of student safety on college campuses. This visit coincides with the upcoming Columbia debut of her powerful one-woman show, “Beneath The Crown: A Survivor’s Story.”

Bridging Lived Experience and Expertise

“Beneath The Crown” is a compelling journey through Dr. April K’s own experience, transforming unthinkable trauma into a message of triumph. As a Title IX trainer and expert, Dr. April K brings a unique blend of lived experience and professional knowledge to the table.

Strengthening Campus Initiatives

The response from Title IX coordinators in the area has been exceptional. Dr. April K will be visiting campuses in Columbia, Orangeburg, Denmark, and Aiken to discuss the dynamics of their existing programs and explore how she can further assist in educating both staff and students on creating safe and inclusive campus environments.

Dr. April K is a survivor, advocate, and multi-faceted artist based in Atlanta, Georgia. With a diverse background spanning film, theater, and activism, she uses her platform to elevate the voices of survivors and drive positive change in communities worldwide. Through her work as a film coordinator, regional DV coordinator, and global advocate, Dr. April K continues to inspire and empower others with her resilience and unwavering commitment to justice and healing.

About the Play

“Beneath The Crown, A Survivor’s Story” is an amazing, autobiographical one-woman stage play that chronicles Dr. April K’s personal journey of overcoming unthinkable traumas to achieve remarkable success. The play is co-produced by Tyler Perry’s Javon Johnson and Author N. D. “Indy” Brennan.
