Dr. April K Brings "Beneath The Crown: A Survivor's Story" to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands


St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – April 3, 2024 – Dr. April K, renowned actress, playwright, and survivor advocate, has arrived in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, for the highly anticipated State of the Virgin Islands Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated Conference. Dr. April K will be performing her captivating one-woman play, “Beneath The Crown: A Survivor’s Story,” at the prestigious University of the Virgin Islands, marking her first trip to the island.

The local chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated warmly received Dr. April K, expressing excitement and anticipation for her performance. This event is unique as it will be the first time Dr. April K performs exclusively for her sorority sisters and fraternity brothers from Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated, creating a special connection with the audience.

Anticipation is running high as Dr. April K’s tour extends beyond the contiguous United States, reaching audiences in the U.S. territories. The selection of “Beneath The Crown: A Survivor’s Story” for this conference reflects the growing concerns within the U.S. territories regarding the themes of sexual violence and domestic abuse, topics central to Dr. April K’s powerful narrative.

In addition to her performance, Dr. April K will engage with the local community, discussing their concerns and sharing insights on addressing issues related to sexual violence and domestic abuse. As a Title IX trainer, Dr. April K is dedicated to educating students and faculty on methods to detect and prevent such threats on high school and college campuses.

Reflecting on her journey and the significance of her work, Dr. April K shared, “As a thriving survivor, I believe it is my purpose to support others facing abusive relationships. Sharing my story on stage and being part of Zeta Phi Beta Incorporated allows me to make a real difference. Regardless of their struggles, I want others to know they can overcome.”

Following her impactful performance in St. Thomas, Dr. April K’s next stop will be in Columbia, South Carolina, on April 20, continuing her mission to inspire and empower audiences worldwide.

About the Play

“Beneath The Crown, A Survivor’s Story” is an amazing, autobiographical one-woman stage play that chronicles Dr. April K’s personal journey of overcoming unthinkable traumas to achieve remarkable success. The play is co-produced by Tyler Perry’s Javon Johnson and Author N. D. “Indy” Brennan.
