Dr. April K, a survivor of domestic abuse and sexual violence, returned to her hometown with a thunderous stage play that left the audience spellbound. The weather was perfect, but the real storm was the raw emotion and resilience displayed on stage.

The audience, comprised of Dr. April K’s family, friends, and former classmates, eagerly awaited the performance, not fully knowing what to expect. As the play began, it became clear that this was not just any show; it was a powerful narrative of survival, courage, and redemption. James Neely, a member of the audience, captured the sentiment perfectly, expressing how Dr. April K’s voice and performance left everyone in awe. He remarked that every city should witness such a profound display of artistry.

For Dr. April K, this was a dream fulfilled. She shared her gratitude for the opportunity to bring her story to Anderson and to perform at The Electric City Playhouse, a place she had once dreamed of gracing with her talent. Her journey from trauma to triumph resonated deeply with the audience, leaving an indelible mark on all who were present.

The 90-minute uninterrupted performance was a rollercoaster of emotions, weaving together heartbreak and inspiration seamlessly. As the curtain fell, the anticipation for the next stops of the show soared. Dr. April K is set to perform in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands, on April 6 for the Zeta Phi Beta State Conference, followed by a performance in Columbia, South Carolina, on April 21, where she will be greeted by former teachers and classmates from her alma mater, Benedict College.
